PATH training, August 2023 – and updates

Eilidh Nicholson and I, hosted by Spectrum Society for Community Living, will be facilitating a 3 day training in Vancouver, August 23 – 25th. You can find out more, and register, here.

We will examine several tools for thinking about person centered planning, network development and goal setting. We will focus particularly on PATH as a template for planning but will also look at MAPS, Solution Circles, the Circles diagram and One Page Profiles. At the end of these three days together participants will be able to facilitate groups of various kinds as well as support individuals to identify their networks and expand them. Participants will gain basic drawing skills (we’ve trained dozens of people who also thought they couldn’t draw – it will be fun!) and facilitation skills, within the context of person-centered thinking and planning, which now has a history of more than 50 years of good evidence that we can support people’s aspirations for better lives and networks.

Eilidh and I will talk a bit about our two year project with Siwal Si’wes, which is part of the Mission School District, using PATH with different groups (teachers, students, Elders, administrators) to inform their next Indigenous Equity scan. Eilidh and I have facilitated about a dozen groups, looking for common and outlying themes in their schools and communities. We’ve just got word that we will be working with senior students there for the next couple of years, teaching planning processes that they can use for themselves and their peers. So excited!

Shelley Nessman of PLAN and In The Company of Others will be working with POPARD on a large PATH training event this autumn, in Richmond, and also with one of our favourite partners, the traveling teams of Inclusion Outreach, for their annual conference.

I am so grateful to be working with so many really lovely, forward thinking partners 🙂 – and that was all part of my own PATH! Do consider coming to join us at one of our events!
